About This Design
Three Moai stand center chest — the monolithic stone figures of Rapa Nui, Easter Island, carved from compressed volcanic ash by the Rapa Nui people between the 13th and 16th centuries. A condor perches above the #10, wings folded, the largest flying bird in the Western Hemisphere. To the right of the country name, a huemul — the South Andean deer on the coat of arms, one of the rarest large mammals in South America. On the back, a huaso sits mounted above the "1" — the Chilean horseman, the cowboy of the Central Valley, in the wide-brimmed hat and poncho of the rodeo tradition. Inside the zero: Valparaíso's hillside neighborhoods, the cerros stacked tight from the port to the ridgeline.
